ASSAM CONVENTION 2018 - CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES We invite all our youth and young children to participate in the annual essay competition this year. Please submit your essays to the following email ids with the subject line “2018 Assam Convention Essay Competition followed by your name” by Friday, June 15. o This email address is being protected from spambots. Rules/about the competition |
§ Only Assamese origin students residing and studying in USA, Canada or Mexico can participate in the contest. § Essays must be no longer than 1500 words in length, submitted in English § Only Word (.doc) or PDF files can be submitted § Only one entry per student is allowed, and each entry must be the work of only one student. § Essay entries cannot have already been published. § Any essays found to be plagiarized will be automatically disqualified |

- Here are the guidelines on the duration of each type of program (including preparation and wrap‐up time). Please try not to exceed these durations.
- Song = 4-6 minutes
- Dance = 5-8 minutes
- Skit = 10 to 20 minutes
- Instrumental = 4-6 minutes
- For any other type, please specify.
We will try to accommodate as many requests for programs within the three cultural evenings. However, due to limited time during these evenings, it may not be possible to do so.
The Cultural and/or Children’s Committees will do the due diligence and select programs that can maximize the degree of entertainment during the cultural evenings.
- The sequencing and day/time of performance of the selected programs will be decided by the Cultural Committee and/or Children’s Committee.
- You are encouraged to provide any YouTube or other internet links depicting your any past performances.
- The program selection process will be completed by the end of June 5, 2018. If your item is selected, you will be contacted by the Cultural Committee.
- Background music or any background recording of voice, music for skits must be received on or before May 30, 2018.

Children Chorus (Krishna Saharia Das Memorial Trophy)

CHILDREN'S CHORUS COMPETITION GUIDELINES

Song choice: Songs can be any Assamese song sung creatively as a chorus.

Group size: The group size should be 4 or more.
- Age: 5 years up to 12 years.

Performance Time: Length of the chorus should not exceed 4 minutes.

Setup & Dismissal: Maximum time allowed for setup is <= 90 secand, teardown <=90 sec.

Costume: Any appropriate costume is acceptable as long as the participants appear to be part of a group.

Performance: All team members must participate equally and must be well coordinated.
ADULT CHORUS COMPETITION GUIDELINES

Song choice: Songs choices are: Jyoti Xongeet, Rabha Xongeet, Bhupendra Xongeet and any contemporary Assamese song that can be sung as a chorus. Lyrics must be appropriate for a family setting and must be age appropriate.

Group size: The group size should be 4 or more.

Performance Time: Length of the chorus should not exceed 5 minutes.

Setup & Dismissal: If an act requires setup and teardown, maximum time allowed is <=90 seconds(set up) and <= 90 seconds (teardown).

Costume: Any appropriate costume is acceptable as long as the participants appear to be part of a group. Costume will bejudged.

Performance: All team members must participate equally and must be well coordinated. The group will be judged on diction, on their ability to remain in tune and maintain the pitch and correct rhythm throughout the song. In addition, the following aspects will be judged – liveliness of the overall performance, individual and overall contributions, gestures, voice quality. Singing from memory is preferred.

There will be point deduction for reading it from paper.
Note: Participants are strongly advised to bring one back-up copy of their track (if they are using one) on a USB drive.
ADULT BIHU DANCE COMPETITION GUIDELINES

Song Choice: Songs should be traditional Bihu songs. Lyrics must be appropriate for a family setting. The accompanying music may be live or pre-recorded. No extra points are awarded for dancing to live music.

Group size: The group size should be 4 or more.

Performance Time: Should not exceed 6 minutes.

Costumes: Participants should wear ethnic Assamese Bihu outfit.

Performance: All team members must participate equally and must be well coordinated. In addition, the following aspects will be judged – liveliness of the overall performance, individual and overall contributions, facial expressions, use of props and creativity.
Note: Participants are strongly advised to bring one back-up copy of their track (if they are using one) on a USB drive.
