The 2011 Annual General Body Meeting of Assam Foundation of North America (AFNA) was held as a part of Assam Convention 2011 on 07/03/2011, Saturday, 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort, 3500 Midwest Road, Oak Brook, Illinois, USA. It was attended by about 30 attendees, the list of which will be published along with the detailed minutes in AFNA’s website.
The meeting started with the President’s Address, wherein Satyajit Nath welcomed all the attendees, recognized the effort of the volunteers, gave a quick highlight of the activities of AFNA in the past year, requested everybody to become a member and clarified that the membership fees is $25 per family. After that the Statement of Accounts was read out by Krishanu Kaushik. During that Debabrata Sarma, Rathin Devchoudhury initiated several discussions, which will be included in the detailed minutes published in
AFNA’s website. The next item in the meeting was Recognition of Outstanding Volunteer Work, which was effectively coordinated by Binoy Bordoloi. It included recognition of contributions by volunteers in North America as well as AFNA’s local partners in Assam. All the attendees appreciated the contribution of all the volunteers.
The next topic of discussion was about Constitutional Amendments. It was decided that it does not need
constitutional amendment to record that the family membership fee is $25, as that has been the membership fees for many years, as per decision taken in a General Body meeting. The proposal to amend the majority requirement for the Board of Directors from "must be citizens of the U.S.A." to "must be constituted of citizens and permanent residents of the U.S.A." was ratified by the general body and recognized by acclamation. Several other points brought up by Manoranjan Bezbaruah, Rathin Devchoudhury, Debabrata Sarma and Jibeswar Talukdar will be published in the detailed Minutes.
The names of the Directors for the Year 2011 were announced. Anu Bora, Binoy Bordoloi, Enakshi Baruah and Krishanu Kaushik accepted the responsibility. It was recognized that the post of Secretary needs to be filled and in the interest of time the BOD was given the responsibility to work on filling up this position through proper process. It was suggested that nominations should be sought from all the members of AFNA. During the Open Session several attendees came up with various excellent suggestions. All these details will soon be published in AFNA’s website after an internal review by Office Bearers and Board of Directors.
