‘Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xipare’ directed by Bidyout Kotoky, an Assamese film maker has won the Audience Choice Award 2014 in the North Carolina film festival.
'Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xipare' has also been selected for the upcoming 14th Annual New York Indian Film Festival - North America's oldest and most prestigious destination for feature films, documentaries, and shorts from and about the Indian subcontinent- to be held from May 5 to 10,2014.
“It give us immense satisfaction to know that the audience from different parts of the globe has related and voted our film-set in the river island of Majuli in Assam, as the best film in the festivals. It just goes on to reconfirm our belief that the colour of human emotions in any part of the globe is the same”, says Kotoky.

Sanjeev Bordoloi, Professor at the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis has been recently invited as a distinguished guest to the grand opening of the Kaziranga University (KU) in June, 2012, along with other notable members (including the hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam). Prof. Bordoloi had received his felicitation during that ceremony. The beautiful campus of the Kaziranga University currently comprises of the KU School of Engineering & Technology (BTech & MTech) and the KU School of Business (B.Com, BBA, & MBA).

Two more schools, namely School of Health Sciences and School of Agriculture and Forestry, are slated to come up in the next couple of years. The enrolled student base of KU is going to grow from about 500 in the year 2012 to about 4000 in the year 2016.
KU’s students learn from a renowned faculty with impressive records of engineering, business, research, and teaching excellence.
On September 1, 2009, US Astronaut Col. Michael E. Fincke visited Assam & Meghalaya as an official guest of the two North Eastern States. He was accompanied by his wife Renita and three children, Chandra, Tarali, and Surya, as well as his in-laws, Rupesh & Probha Saikia. Mike whom we fondly refer to as “Axomor Juwai” and his family were escorted with full police security throughout his tour of Assam and Meghalaya. On September 2, 2009, the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi felicitated Mike for his remarkable achievements and his special contribution to the students of Assam. Mike handed over to the Chief Minister an Assamese Gamosa flown in the International Space Station which was autographed by several astronauts. It may be noted that in September 2008, Mike reached out from aboard the International Space Station (Expedition 18) to the school and college students of Assam and the North Eastern States to inspire them and create awareness of space exploration. Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters along with the US Government, NASA, and Government of India and the state governments made this extraordinary feat possible with their meticulous planning and execution. In his two-week tour of Assam and Meghalaya, Mike was felicitated by a large number of organizations in public ceremonies attended by thousands of people. He also participated in several seminars at the IIT, Guwahati. Additionally, at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong Mike addressed a 1000 strong group of school students representing the entire North East Region. While in Guwahati the All Assam Student’s Union greeted him with great enthusiasm.
