Dr.Deba Sarma, daughter of Hiren and Usha Sarma recently retuned from a surgical mission trip to Guatemala with her husband Dr.Anirudha (Andy) Kulkarni. The group of surgeons, anesthesiologists and operating room staff travel to rural Guatemala to provide general surgical care to patients without access to larger city hospitals. Andy, who is finishing up his fellowship in pain management in Lansing, Michigan, has been participating in mission trips to La Labor, Guatemala for the past 4 years to provide the necessary anesthesia for the patients. Deba joined the team this year to provide surgical services such as inguinal and umbilical hernia repairs. She will also be finishing her fellowship this year in colon and rectal surgery in Philadelphia, PA. They will be celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary on May 8th and hope to move to the USA South after completion of their training.
Sanjeet Saikia, in 2010, recently completed a year long project in Saudi Arabia for DuPont Chemicals. He was one of the lead chemical process control engineers that upstarted a plant in Saudi. Sanjeet, a graduate of the University of Southern California's chemical engineering school, has been working as an engineer since he graduated. He is also the only son of the proud parents, Rupesh and Probha Saikia.
