On Saturday, July 10th, Abhishruti Bezbarua performed at a Baithak organized by Gautam and Anita Barthakur at their residence in Woodlands. A budding star of the Banares Gharana, Abhishruti has an inborn talent in a variety of art forms: music, dance, art. At a young age, Abhishruti has obtained many accolades through her presentations in numerous highly coveted Indian Classical music
gatherings, where she earned much recognition and a number of prestigious awards.
The Assamese community and a sizeable group of people from the Indian Music Society had the privilege of listening to Abhishruti at this Baithak. The recital started at 3:30 pm and was divided into two segments. In the first segment, Abhishruti recited the Raag “Jog” in its three forms - Alaap, Madhya Laya, and Druta Laya. This was followed by a Bandish in Raag Durga – a composition of Maestros Rajan and Sajan Mishra. She concluded the first segment with a Guru Nanak Bhajan in Raag Charukoshi.
Abhishruti started the 2nd segment of the recital with “Doxabotar”, which was followed by a medley of Assamese folk songs starting from one end of Assam to the other. She concluded this section with Ghazals and light Hindi and Assamese songs at the request of her audience. Abhishruti was accompanied by two highly acclaimed local classical artistes, Shruti Sample on the Harmonium and Amit Bhagwat on the Tabla.
To say the least, Abhishruti captured her audiences’ hearts – both the Assamese and non Assamese alike by her superb performance and humble demeanor. Additionally, the experience of enjoying Indian classical music in the midst of a respectable gathering of music connoisseurs made the evening extra special.
