Television Broadcast:
“Deuboriya Adda”, a weekly TV program on “Newslive” channel in Guwahati featured the local Assamese community of Michigan and was broadcast by the channel in late January/early February. The program was hosted by Partha and Mompi Borah of Lansing, MI. Graduations:
- Ritusmita Borkotoky Bhattacharyya graduated with a M.S. degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development from Eastern Michigan University, April 2012. Ritusmita (Tinky) and her husband Anamitra have recently relocated to Indiana. We will miss them and hope they return to Michigan again! - Chiranjit Bordoloi graduated with a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from Oakland University in April 2012. He is an accomplished musician and the force behind AAMI’s musical endeavours. Congratulations to both of them and wish them success for the future! Newcomers: We are very happy to welcome the following new members to our Michigan community: Partha Sarathi Borah and Mompi Bhuyan Borah, Chandan Mozumder, Ritesh, Rumi and Vedanta Chakravarty, Santonu Goswami, Udipta Dutta, Neelay Choudhury and Shobhana Talukdar. Chandan has established himself as our resident photographer. Partha and Mompi are regular contributors to publications back in Assam.
Achievement:
Rohan Talukdar, 8 year old son of Mridyushyam and Bobby Talukdar, of Windsor, Canada was selected to represent Canada in the 2011 World Youth Chess Competition that was held in Brazil in November, 2011. He was first in the Ontario Youth Chess Championship and third in Canada.
Birth:
Sidhartha and Shravanti Roychoudhury were blessed with a baby girl, Anaya, on September 2nd, 2011. Congratulations to the proud parents and big brother Adiran and a warm welcome to little Anaya.
Naam:
A “Naam” ceremony was held at the residence of Ruma and Debojit Barua on October 30th to commemorate the 1st death anniversary of Nagendranath Bezbora, Ruma’s father. It was very well attended by the local community, many of whom had met him during his many trips here. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were also present to mark the occasion. Srijut Bezbora, a very close friend of late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, had actively participated in the 1996 Assam Convention in Chicago where he played on the keyboards and also released the magazine “Luitor Pora Mississippi”
