- Anee & Ranjan Deka
On April 10th, seventeen families (55 people including children) from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky gathered in the house of Anee and Ranjan Deka at Cincinnati for a pre-convention meeting and to celebrate Bihu. The occasion was heightened by the presence of Dr. and Mrs. Manoranjan Bezboruah from Washington DC. For the families from the heartland being the organizers of this year’s Assam Convention at Nashville, it was a wonderful forum to touch the details of the preparations and the progress made. The convention meeting finally gave way to celebrate Bihu – all came prepared to perform and in celebration mood, filled with a joyous atmosphere of music and merry making. Borgeet, Bihu and modern Assamese songs brought an aura of Assameseness! Ladies danced to the tune of Bihu. This was followed by a sumptuous dinner – all of the ladies brought a dish or two, very Assamese that included Butor Daal, Rou Masor Tenga, Pitha and what not! It was nostalgic – took us back to our time in Sonor Asom.
