Immersion of Bhupendas ashes on Fathers Day 1 Immersion of Bhupendas ashes on Fathers Day 2

Father’s Day, June 17th was marked by a Naam ceremony at the residence of Ruma and Debojit Barua to honor Bhupenda, a father figure for the entire community, Nagendranath Bezbora (Ruma’s father) and Suren Barua (Debojit’s father). Besides all the local people, we were very fortunate to have Amulya and Jona Barthakur from Guwahati (parents of Priyanka Kaushik) who guided us with the rituals. After the ceremony, the attendees all drove in a convoy to Lake Erie Metropark and immersed Bhupenda’s and Ruma’s father’s ashes together. It was a symbolic and touching moment to see the ashes mingle and float away, the two friends re-united again for eternity. The community had also organized a Sraddhanjali to Bhupenda in November 2011 and a Sangeet Alekhya at the Rongali Bihu celebrations in April 2012 (see previous newsletters).
